Reflect on the moments that shaped 2024.
Some were joyful, others challenging, yet every moment gave you more awareness of what you created during the year.
Reflection allows us to see how far we’ve come. It helps us gain perspective, come to terms with events, learn from our experiences, and enjoy moments of gratitude. It’s also a gentle reminder of our strength and resilience.
Looking back is not about dwelling on what didn’t go as planned. It’s about noticing the things that made the journey worthwhile and reflecting on those things we can be grateful for.
Why Choose Gratitude?
Gratitude shifts our focus from what’s lacking to what we already have.
It’s a simple yet transformative practice that can improve well-being.
When we appreciate the good in our lives, no matter how small, positivity grows.
Gratitude enhances relationships, boosts emotional balance, and creates hope.
A Different Way to Say Goodbye to 2024.
Here are a few prompts that may help you get in touch with the beauty of closing one door so you can open a new one.
- Moments of Joy: Write or think about a specific moment that made you smile this year.
- Supportive People: List the people who stood by you.
- Personal Growth: Acknowledge one skill or habit you developed or improved upon.
- Lessons Learned: Reflect on what a challenge taught you about yourself or life.
- Memorable Experiences: Recall a trip, event, or experience that added richness to your year.
- Health and Wellness: Place your hands gently on your body and say, “Thank you body for supporting me in all the ways I don’t even understand.” Our bodies are miraculous and when we are thankful, we get more of what we are thankful for.
- Opportunities: Note any chance you had to learn, grow, or connect with others.
New Practices for 2025
Here are a few practices you can put in place on New Year’s Day.
- Kindness Calendar: Make a mark on your calendar in color. When you look at the calendar with those little marks for that cup of coffee you didn’t have to ask for, a word of encouragement, or a kiss from your child, you start noticing how kindness consistently comes into your life.
- Create a Gratitude Jar: Write down what you are grateful for on slips of paper at the end of each day. Add stubs from movies and events. At the end of the year, you can relive the goodness that you had during that year by reading all the great things that happened.
- Notice and Appreciate Nature: enjoy the sunrise or sunset, flowers, cloud formations, rainbows, the smell after a cleansing rain, etc. This is good for mental health, allows us to stop, pause, and look at our surroundings, and can even keep us grounded.
